Welcome to Third Grade with Miss Roberts!
Hello! Thank you for visiting our classroom web-site. My name is Miss Heather Roberts and I will be your child's third grade teacher. I have lived in Phoenix my whole life and grew up in the Deer Valley School District. I went to school at Bellair 1st - 6th grade and I am proud to call myself a Bellair Cougar. I LOVED being a Bellair cougar. That is where I made up my mind that I just had to be a teacher. I was truly inspired by my teachers. I hope to do the same with my students so one day they will be able to find a job that they love and can be successful at! It has always been my dream to come back and teach here. I am beyond excited to be apart of this community once again!
This is my tenth year as an elementary teacher and my second year teaching at Bellair. I truly love being a teacher! I can honestly say that I get up each morning excited to go to work! Why? Third graders have the best traits that students can possess: curiosity, enthusiasm, and compassion. Children this age are so much fun to teach! They are so excited to learn and to discover new things!
Reading, writing, and math will all be taught using a workshop approach in my third grade classroom. To begin the workshop, I start with teaching a focus lesson on a skill. Immediately following the focus lesson, students engage in guided practice of the skill being taught (help from the teacher). Afterwards, students engage in independent practice, working at their own pace and level. At this time of independent practice, I work with a small group of students and/or hold one-on-one conferences with individual students. To end the workshop session, students gather together to share learning experiences.
I love teaching the "Workshop Way" because it allows me to differentiate my instruction to best meet the needs of ALL of my students. Also, I love being able to meet with my students in small groups and individually because I learn about them on a deeper level. The workshop way allows me to do this best!
I believe education is a very critical part of success. Along with that, I believe all children can learn and succeed. With the right support and tools, I plan to help my students not only master this year's content, but be prepared for next year as well. In order for this to happen, I encourage you to be as involved as you would like to be this year. Parents are a child's first educator and I believe if we work together it will help your child to strive for success. You can expect open communication and understanding from me. I will also be willing to assist you and your child with any education concern or conflict you may have. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. The fastest way to reach me is by my school email at [email protected]
or you may write a note or call me at school. If I am unavailable, please leave a message and I will return your call as soon as possible. Again, with your cooperation and support, I know that we can make this the best year yet for your child!
Warmly,
Miss Roberts
